2 Super Easy Bohemian Hairstyles:

How much time does it take you to get ready?

Depending on the day, I can take at least 30 minutes or, my worst days, hours and hours. I think I spend a lot of time just staring at my clothes, hoping they’ll throw themselves at me so I don’t have to crack my head thinking what outfit to wear today. Once I’ve finally chosen the clothes, I realize I don’t have enough time to spare for hair and makeup. Thus, I usually put on a black mascara and a nice lipstick, that’s it. What happens with my hair? Nothing, I do nothing to it because of the lack of time.

This week I wanted to focus on easy hairstyles that I could do in five minutes and share it with you guys. I came up with two pretty easy ones haha, I’m no professional here so bare with me :) I think both can work with long or short hair. What are your go to hairstyles when you are in a hurry? I would love to read your comments on these two hairstyle that I came up with, and if you have easy hairstyles to share, that would be great :)

Before I go on, staying on the topic of hair, I wanted to share with you something I wrote for the Talk Shop on Disqus. It’s a discussion about the dilema of having long or short hair, you can read it here. The Talk Shop is a fun beauty forum where people come up with a topic to discuss and everyone shares their thoughts, funny stories, or even advices related to the topic. So, you are welcome to read, comment, and share your thoughts! I think you don’t have to be a member of Disqus to participate.

Hairstyle #1

  1. Part your hair in a zigzag line. It does’t have to be perfect and it can be messy (like mine haha).
  2. Grab a small strand of hair from your right side, the one closer to your face, and lightly twist it. With a bobby pin, pin it in a downward diagonal direction. Repeat this on the left side.

Hairstyle #2

  1. Part your hair to one side, either left or right, whichever you feel looks better.
  2. Grab a medium strand of hair from the opposite side to which you parted your hair (the side that has more hair now). This strand has to be located in the middle of your head, not closest to your face.
  3. Start doing a french braid, grabbing small strands from left and right sides of the original strand. Continue french braiding until you have reach about 2 or 3 fingers height and then keep doing a simple braid.
  4. Tie your braid with a transparent elastic band (I only had a yellow one haha).
  5. You can leave the braid like that or, grab a bobby pin and pin the braid in a downward diagonal direction, as observed in the photo.

Hope you enjoyed these hairstyles!

Buxom Two of A Kind Lipsticks

This Christmas I bought myself some gifts from Sephora haha :) I think this is the type of store that you have to go with an already thought out plan, because there are a lot of temptations haha. However, once I got to the store I forgot about the list I made beforehand, and realize that I wanted everything! Hasn’t this happen to you too? Anyway, I was looking for some lipsticks and I guess I was feeling adventurous because I decided to try Buxom’s Two of A Kind Lipsticks, which is a brand I hadn’t tried out before.

Buxom’s Two of A Kind Lipsticks come in a nice package shaped like a card deck box. This product has two smaller sized lipsticks than the regular size they sell. I thought it was a great idea because it allowed me to try two different colored lipsticks at once, and this way I was able to test the brand as well. I got the Mistress and Hooligan colors, which are two different pink shades. Mistress is a lighter pink tone, I would say it is a rose pink color. Hooligan is a darker pink with a little bit of a plum or brownish undertone (I’m not an expert haha). They are rich and creamy. I felt it was moisturizing my lips. Both colors have a matte finish which was great because I wanted a matte lipstick. You don’t have to apply a lot, which is something I look for in lipsticks. I noticed that the color did fade away fast, not too fast though. Finally, I love that both have a vanilla smell :) I like vanilla haha.

Hope this was useful! Have you tried these lipsticks yet?

Cranberry, Banana, Apple Cake

I’m bored at home once again haha. I think I’m getting the flu, or maybe I’ve been walking a lot lately, if it’s the latter one I must say I have a bad physical condition because it hasn’t been that much walking… Anyway, I wanted to stay at home tonight and since there are plenty of bananas in my house (if you haven’t read my post on Banana Bread, we have banana trees at my house), what better way to use them than for baking a cake!

A little note before I go on, I made up this recipe, I didn’t use any other recipe as a reference, only my imagination, but I think the result was pretty tasty (hope you like it as well!!). I would love to read your comments on this Cranberry, Banana, Apple Cake :)

Ingredients:
1 stick of butter
1 cup of brown sugar
3 eggs
1 green apple
5 bananas
1 1/2 cups of apple juice
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups of baking flour
1 tablespoon of baking powder
1 tablespoon of cinnamon powder
1 tablespoon of nutmeg powder
1 teaspoon of lemon zest
1/4 cup of sliced almonds
1/4 cup of dried cranberries
Pinch of sugar

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees Celsius. Grease and flour a baking pan.

With an electric mixer, beat together the butter and sugar. I like to take my time doing this step and keep mixing the two together until the butter is pale yellow.

Next, add the three eggs, one at a time. Remember to take your time mixing all the ingredients. At first you’ll notice that the mixture becomes quite sticky and solid, but, once you add all three eggs, it will be more liquid. After mixing the eggs, put the mixture aside.

In a blender, yes a blender, mix together 3 bananas, the apple juice, and the vanilla. It’s like making a juice, the bananas have to be well blended. Then, add this mixture to the butter we set aside the step before. With the electric mixer, mix everything together.

Swift together the flour and baking powder over the wet ingredients (the mixture) and stir until well blended.

Cut into small pieces the 2 bananas left and chop the apple into bit size squares. I don’t peel off the apple because I think that this way it adds more flavor to the cake. With a wooden spoon, or any kind of spoon, stir and mix together the bananas, apple, sliced almonds, dried cranberries, lemon zest, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

Place the mixture into the prepared cake pan and bake for an hour, or until golden brown. To make sure the cake is ready, you can test it with a knife or tooth pick. Place it in the cake and if it comes out clean, then its ready. Although it’s hard for me to do so, let the cake cool down in the oven until it’s at room temperature.

Enjoy!

New Year’s Resolution

Hi everyone! First off, I wanted to start by wishing you a happy 2015, hopefully this year will be a great one for all of you! Secondly, I wanted to take a bit of time to analyze what 2014 meant for me, and try to set new goals for 2015. It would be interesting to read your comments and learn what your plans for 2015 are :)

My favorite part of each New Year is the countdown, haha I guess it’s everyone’s favorite part. For me, it represents closure and new beginnings, an opportunity to start again, maybe not like a blank page, but more like taking your story into a new direction. For the last two years I made the same wish each new year and hoped it became true. This year, I forgot to make a wish haha, and, know that I think of it, it turn out better this way. I want to make things different this time, and, instead of making a wish, I want to set goals that I’ll try to fulfill throughout the year. Here is the list:

Goal #1: Letting go and closing chapters, but really closing them.
Friendships, and, in my opinion, any type of relationship, are hard. Maybe, I wouldn’t describe them as hard, but it takes work, and work from both sides, your friend and you. 2014 was an eye opening year in that sense. I realize that a lot of the people whom I considered close friends, weren’t good friends. I don’t think that they are bad people, I just came to realize that the type of friendship we had wasn’t one I thought I wanted or deserved, at least not by someone who I thought of as my best friend. I won’t go into detail of what happened, but, out of this experience, I learned that things go both ways, both people have to make efforts and not just one of them. In my heart anger and resentment grew because I felt rejected and mistreated, hurt. So, this year I want to let go of that anger, let go of that resentment, and truly accept them as the persons they are and accept the type of friendship they can give, without calling them best friends, just friends. Do you know what I mean? What I’m trying to say is that I want to be able to live happy and not care about them. At the end of the day, I’m the one angry, and that anger doesn’t let me enjoy life like I could, so it’s time to forget and forgive.

Goal #2: Making new friends and cultivating old friendships.
While in 2014 I struggled with closing chapters and defining the type of friendship I wanted, I subconsciously isolated myself from others. I was disappointed at people and assumed everyone was going to hurt me, that if I trusted someone too much, he/she would reject me at some point, just disappoint me, like my “best friends” did. Yet, I forgot an important fact: in life you can’t prevent yourself from getting hurt. Isolation wasn’t the solution to the problem. Just because I met people that were’t whom I thought they were, doesn’t mean I wouldn’t meet someone that would like me for the way I am. By not getting to know someone, you are closing the door to someone who might me a good person. How can you tell if that person is the one? Only time will tell, only by getting to know each other, just don’t give away your full trust so easily and right away. Therefore, this year I want to get back into the world haha, meet new people, make friends, and hung out with my old friends.

Goal #3: Get to know myself. Learn to accept and love myself.
This probably sounds too egocentric haha, but I think that it is important to grow a good relationship with yourself, of course with moderation, without going to the extreme. By doing so, your confidence will grow and you’ll become a person sure of him/herself, and this love will show in many areas of your life. Throughout the years, I’ve learned that the persons who are truly confident of themselves are those who don’t compare themselves with others, who can enjoy other’s success without feeling threaten or without being jealous. This year I want to focus on myself as well. I want to learn to accept who I am without feeling I’m letting others down, without feeling I’m not enough. I want to feel pretty haha, I want to trust my decisions, I want to trust my knowledge, and I want to feel proud of the person I’ve become.

Goal #4: Study more, learn more, and be better in my career.

What are your plans for this new year?

Sending love to all who is reading this.
