First Impression: Sephora Collection Rouge Shine and Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil

Ever since I can remember, my mom has always worn any type, any shade, of red lipstick. I can’t think of red lipsticks without remembering of my mom. I’ve always thought she looks great with it, elegant, feminine, and strong. However, not everyone is as quick to rock red lips. Personally, sometimes I feel intimidated by them. Red is bold and calls attention, and I think you have to have the confidence to walk around with it and make it look seamless. Nonetheless, I decided to not think twice about it and just try it out. I got these two red lipsticks from Sephora: Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella and Sephora Collection Rouge Shine.

Sephora Collection Rouge Shine

I’ve been a huge fan of Sephora as a store for a while, but have never really gotten the chance to try their own range of makeup products. So, when I saw this lipstick, I thought it would be a great opportunity to test their products out. The first thing I noticed was the lipstick’s color. It’s a dark intense red, but when you try it out it’s more like a strawberry red/pink. I think the color is very pretty and suitable for any occasion, whether it’s to add a pop of color to a daytime look or to intensify a darker nighttime look. The second thing I noticed was the scent. This lipstick smells like chemicals. I didn’t really like the scent, but it wasn’t that strong and it didn’t bother me that much. Nonetheless, it’s quite noticeable.

One thing I thought was a great quality is that it’s very pigmented. It’s not necessary to apply various coats of lipstick, as with one coat I thought was enough. The color is very intense and doesn’t fade easily. It has a nice glossy finish, which makes the lips look fuller and brighter. As for consistency, this lipstick is creamy and soft, very easy to blend.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella

Being an avid reader of beauty reviews, Nars is a makeup brand that I’ve always wanted to try out since I’ve read so many good things about some of their products. Taking that as an excuse, I decided to get this lip pencil haha. This product’s color is an intense red, with less pink undertone than the one from Sephora. I would describe it as a classic red lipstick. Once applied to the lips, the color doesn’t change. It’s true to the product’s color, if that makes sense. Although this is marketed as a lip pencil, I think consistency wise it’s more like a lipstick. It’s very creamy and moisturizing. I was much attracted to it’s matte finish. I love matte lipsticks and I’ve enjoyed using this one. As well as the Sephora Collection Rouge Shine, Nars’ Lip Pencil is very pigmented and long lasting. Finally, something that I liked, but maybe it’s not that big of a deal, was it’s size. Although I tend to think that when it comes to makeup products, the more, the better, this one is smaller compared to other lipsticks. However, I thought it’s size was great to carry it in your purse and even in your pocket on day when you just don’t want wear any bags.

Have you tried these products? Which lipsticks do you like? Do you often wear red lipsticks?

I hope you enjoy this review! Let me know what you think :)

Easy DIY: Coffee Ice Cream

Where I live, the past couple of weeks have been very hot weather-wise. I love summer and sunny days, but my skin does’t really enjoy it. I’ve witness an increase in the freckle population on my cheeks, and it’s not flattering. Also, sunny days come with humidity because we are in the transition between summer to rainy weather. This humidity, in addition to the hot days, have made me feel very sticky. Thus, these days call for only one solution: coffee ice cream :) It’s not everyday that I can go to Haagen Dazs and get my favorite coffee ice cream, so I decided to get creative in the kitchen and make my own.

The ingredients:

I love coffee and coffee love runs in my family. A few years ago we got this little espresso and capuccino machine from Oster. Although I still haven’t mastered the art of cappuccino making, this machine has been very handy. It’s simple to use, all you need is ground coffee and water! If you don’t own any coffee machine, then instant coffee will do the trick.

To sweeten things up a bit, I used condensed milk, but if you don’t have it then Nutella would be a great option as well.

Procedure:

1. Prepare an espresso shot or strong black coffee (don't add any sugar since we are going to use the condensed milk, which is super sweet).

2. While the coffee cools down, place the condensed milk on a small container. I used this rounded glass container, but any other that you like can work as well.

3. Pour the coffee over the condensed milk, but do not stir them together. I used equal amounts of coffee and condensed milk. Cover and then refrigerate until it has frozen. I left it in the freezer the whole night.

4. Remove from the freezer and enjoy :)

I hope you liked this easy DIY! Let me know what you think! Do you have other ice cream recipes that recommend?

My Birthday: Makeup, Outfit, and More

Hello everyone! How are you? How was your weekend? Mine was very special because it was my birthday! To be honest, I don’t usually celebrate it in a big way. For the last couple of years I’ve invited friends over for a small party/gathering. However, this year I wanted to spend it only with my family and close friends. I don’t know, I guess things can change so much in just a few years. To put it this way, my friendships from high school, the ones I thought I would grow old with, sort of fell apart and cooled down. Even though I’ve tried to move on and avoid giving it much thought, it still hurts a bit to think that I trusted girls who then turned their backs on me for no reason. Yet, luckily as one door closes, many more open, and this year I’m grateful for my family and boyfriend. This whole situation made me open my eyes and realize that I’m lucky to have such supportive people in my life. Nonetheless, lets not dwell on that and lets carry on into funnier and more enjoyable topics :P

My actual birthday was on Sunday, but I celebrated it Saturday and Sunday. I’m not much of a party person and I guess 24 hit me hard haha because I just wanted to do something more relaxed and intimate. My boyfriend and I went to dinner and then watched a movie on Saturday. We went to a restaurant in this beautiful little hotel. The decoration was amazing and breathtaking! I wanted to take more photos to show you guys, but I was intimidated and afraid it wasn’t allowed. However, I snapped this photo with my cellphone while no one was watching me :P

The food was great! I ordered fish with macadamia and orange sauce. For dessert we ate creme brûlée while drinking coffee. Here is a photo of me with my huge cup of coffee to keep me awake for the movie.

As for my makeup, I wanted something simple, yet nighttime appropriate.

  1. First, I placed the MAC Prep + Prime in the shade Light all over the lid and crease.
  2. Then, I used my Smashbox Full Exposure Palette for the eyes. I applied the matte light beige eyeshadow onto my crease, from side to side.
  3. Next, I dabbed the shimmery pink eyeshadow onto the upper eyelid. With a fluffy brush, I blended both eyeshadows avoiding harsh lines.
  4. Using the Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner in Blackest Black, I drew a winged line.
  5. Finally, I applied my MAC Opulash Optimum Black Mascara to add volume to my eyelashes
  6. As for the face, I used Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in the shade 125
  7. To achieve a matte finish, I applied Essence Cosmetics Mattifying Compact Powder in Light Beige.
  8. To add definition, I used the Smashbox Bronze Lights in Sunkissed Matte on my cheek bones, sides of my nose, jaw bones, and forehead.
  9. Last, but not least, I applied Bare Minerals Gloss on the Go Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Spark Plug.

My outfit was sort of nighttime casual. I opted for a long black and white striped top from Stradivarius. Because this top is not too long to be a dress, I wore black leggings underneath. I paired this with black knee-high boots from Nine West. To add a more casual touch, I wore a green jacket from Express.

After dinning, we watched Pixels. To my surprised Rotten Tomatoes gave it like a 17%! Have you seen the movie? I thought it was pretty funny and entertaining. It wasn’t a deep thought movie about life or philosophy, but for me it was perfect for having a good time. Also, call me a geek, but I was a bit excited to see Ashley Benson from Pretty Little Liars playing a different role other than Hannah (yes, I haven’t watched Spring Breakers haha).

Before I knew it, it was Sunday, my birthday. I spent the day with my family just chatting and having fun. My mom took me to breakfast at this great café that we both like. Then, after lunch we gathered together to blow the candles and eat birthday cake. I love this cake! I always get the same each year, it’s just so awesome! It’s a vanilla cake with a filling of strawberries, whipping cream, and pastry cream mixed together. My tummy was very happy!

Finally, to end this super long post (sorry about that!) I wanted to say that I had so much fun and felt very happy to have such amazing people surrounding me during my birthday. I think that a few years ago I would have felt bad not having thousands of people wishing me happy birthday or celebrating with me. I’ve come to realize that it doesn’t matter the number of people, as long as those who stand besides me are people who truly care for me :) Not only that, I feel lucky to have this blog. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed it as much as I enjoy writing it :)

Let me know what you think of this post!

Lots of love!
